Hyderabad: A missing elderly woman from Manikonda was found murdered in Vikarabad district—her body dumped in a forest after being allegedly killed for jewellery by a woman she knew.
Police said Balamma, a resident of Khanapur under the Narsingi police station limits, had gone missing on June 3 after she left home for a routine walk and never returned. When her absence stretched into hours, her daughter-in-law filed a missing persons report with suspicions pointing toward a known acquaintance—Anitha.
Acting on the complaint, police began tracking Anitha’s movements. She was taken into custody on June 7 from Mittakodur in Parigi mandal of Vikarabad district. Under interrogation, Anitha confessed to the crime, admitting she murdered Balamma for the gold and silver ornaments she was wearing.
Anitha revealed she had transported the body and dumped it deep in the forest area near Kandlapalli. In a twist, Vikarabad’s Chengomul police had already found an unidentified body on June 4. A spot postmortem had been conducted and the body buried on site due to lack of identification.
It was only after Anitha’s confession that the Narsingi police linked the missing case to the body found in Vikarabad. Balamma’s remains were exhumed on June 7 and positively identified by her family members.
Police have booked Anitha for murder and the investigation is still underway. The incident has shaken the local community and also sparked fresh worries among residents, particularly about the safety of senior citizens.
