Mahabubnagar robbery case: Two accused arrested for threatening woman

Hyderabad: Police arrested two accused in a Mahabubnagar robbery case involving a woman vegetable vendor who was threatened with a knife and robbed of gold ornaments and cash, officials said on Thursday.

Mahabubnagar DSP Venkateshwarlu said the accused were apprehended and remanded to judicial custody. He addressed a media conference at the Bhoothpur police station along with Circle Inspector Ramakrishna.

According to police, the victim, Pichchakuntla Ramulamma from Bhoothpur mandal headquarters, earns a living by selling vegetables. On the early morning of the 3rd of this month, she reached Bhoothpur crossroads around 3:30 am to travel to Mahabubnagar to purchase vegetables.

At that time, an auto driver offered to take her to Mahabubnagar and she boarded the vehicle, the DSP said.

After crossing the Sakshi Ganapati temple at Amistapur, one of the accused allegedly placed a knife on the woman’s neck and threatened her. Meanwhile, the auto driver diverted the vehicle towards a deserted area near teak plantations.

Police said the accused robbed the woman of gold ornaments and cash before abandoning her at the location and fleeing in the same auto. The stolen items included a gold chain, 12 small gold beads, two larger beads, ear ornaments and ₹5,000 in cash.

The total value of the stolen property was estimated at around ₹75,000, police said.

Following the incident, Ramulamma’s son Pichchakuntla Balaraju lodged a complaint with Bhoothpur police. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation under the supervision of CI Ramakrishna.

Sub-Inspector Chandrasekhar and police personnel Venkat Naik, Raghavender, Nagaraju and MD Ibrahim began efforts to trace the suspects.

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage that showed the auto picking up the woman without a number plate. Police then tracked the vehicle using visible markings on the auto.

During the search operation, police traced the suspects to Jadcherla and apprehended them.

The accused were identified as Mane Moni Shivudu, a resident of Buddhasamudram village in Thimmajipet mandal, and Mohammed Akram, who works at a chicken shop in Jadcherla town.

Police recovered the stolen gold ornaments, cash, the knife used to threaten the victim and the auto involved in the crime. The accused were later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

The DSP said the case was solved within two days due to the coordinated efforts of the police team. He later presented cash rewards and appreciation certificates to SI Chandrasekhar and the staff involved in the investigation.
