LPG supply rules tightened amid global tensions

Hyderabad: The Union government tightened LPG supply regulations to prevent shortages in the domestic market amid global geopolitical tensions.

Officials said disruptions in global fuel supply followed tensions involving United States, Israel and Iran. These developments began affecting global trade and energy supply chains.

Therefore the government issued fresh directives late Monday night. The move aims to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply for domestic consumers.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas directed oil refineries to increase LPG production. It also asked them to allocate additional output only for household consumption.

Officials also introduced stricter measures to prevent hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders. Authorities expect these measures to improve supply monitoring.

Under the new rule consumers must maintain a gap of 25 days between two LPG bookings. Officials believe this step will reduce misuse of cylinders.

They also expect the rule to improve timely supply to ordinary households.

LPG supply prioritised for domestic and essential services

The government also clarified that imported LPG supplies must first serve essential sectors. These sectors include hospitals and educational institutions.

Officials said uninterrupted fuel supply remains crucial for these services. Therefore the government decided to prioritise them.

Meanwhile authorities will closely monitor LPG distribution to commercial sectors. These sectors include hotels, restaurants and other industries.

For this purpose the government formed a special committee. The panel includes three executive directors from Oil Marketing Companies.

The committee will review requests from industries seeking LPG supply. It will also take decisions on distribution when shortages arise.

Officials said the new guidelines aim to protect domestic consumers. At the same time they will ensure that essential sectors do not face supply disruptions.

The measures also seek to maintain balance in LPG distribution during global energy uncertainty.
