LPG diversion crackdown in Telangana: 3,699 cylinders seized

Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Department officials seized 3,699 domestic LPG cylinders and 70 small cylinders in a major LPG diversion crackdown targeting illegal use of subsidised gas.

Officials estimated the total value of the seized property at ₹1.10 crore. The operation exposed a network that diverted domestic cylinders for commercial use.

Authorities said the accused redirected subsidised cylinders to hotels, eateries, and small businesses to cut costs. As a result, such practices disrupted supply to genuine household consumers and caused revenue losses.

Further, officials registered 1,275 cases under Section 6A of the Essential Commodities Act. They also filed 216 FIRs as part of the enforcement action.

Meanwhile, enforcement teams intensified inspections at distribution points, transport routes, and storage locations. They also deployed surveillance teams to track repeat offenders.

Officials said the crackdown focused on identifying key operators behind the network. In addition, teams analysed patterns of illegal diversion linked to commercial establishments.

Authorities said the investigation would continue to trace the supply chain, including distributors and intermediaries. They added that more cases could be registered based on further evidence.

The department said it would sustain strict enforcement to prevent misuse of subsidised LPG and protect supplies meant for domestic consumers.
