KTR flags Suryapet mining e-auction irregularities, seeks cancellation

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi Working President K. Taraka Rama Rao alleged serious irregularities in the Suryapet mining e-auction and demanded immediate cancellation of the tenders.

In a letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, he sought an independent and time-bound probe into the Suryapet mining e-auction process. He claimed the Mines and Geology department conducted the auction in a manner that undermined transparency and violated statutory norms.

Referring to Notification No. 2263906/DM&G MI/Lst/2023 dated August 30, 2024, Rao flagged several procedural lapses. He stated that nearly 1,100 acres of reserved forest land fell within the Pasupulabodu, Saidulnama and Sultanpur mining blocks. However, he alleged that the tender documents did not disclose key technical data.

Suryapet mining e-auction lacked mandatory disclosures

According to Rao, the documents omitted precise latitude and longitude coordinates, DGPS survey validation and forest compartment details. He further said detailed survey maps and UTM geo-coordinates were not furnished. As a result, he argued that bidders were denied crucial information.

He also alleged that comprehensive geological reports required under the Mineral Auction Rules, 2015 and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 were not provided. Therefore, he claimed the legality of the Suryapet mining e-auction stood compromised.

Rao expressed concern that authorities proceeded with the auction despite pending legal scrutiny. He alleged that officials failed to comply with directions issued by the Telangana High Court in WP (PIL) No. 21 of 2024. Moreover, he questioned the announcement of preferred bidders before completion of environmental and statutory clearances.

Suryapet mining e-auction and bidder selection questioned

Raising doubts over the selection of Deccan Cements Limited and NCL Industries Limited, Rao said the firms were reportedly facing cases linked to illegal mining in reserved forest areas. He argued that awarding mining blocks under such circumstances raised serious concerns.

Additionally, he alleged that the auction was conducted without obtaining a mandatory No Objection Certificate from the Forest department. He warned that such actions could damage the environment and weaken public trust in governance.

Rao demanded suspension of all proceedings under the notification linked to the Suryapet mining e-auction. He called for cancellation of the tender and a fresh process only after scientific surveys and statutory clearances were completed. He urged the government to ensure that any new auction followed transparent and legally compliant procedures.
