KTR condemns arrests of BRS leaders, calls it attack on democracy

Hyderabad: BRS working president K T Rama Rao condemned the house arrest of party leaders who tried to meet protesting farmers in Vikarabad district and termed it an attack on democracy.

He criticised the detention of BRSLP deputy leaders T Harish Rao and P Sabitha Indra Reddy along with former MLAs and district leaders. He described the move as a cowardly act.

KTR alleged that the government used police force to suppress dissent. He said coercion to silence opposition voices amounts to undermining democracy.

KTR targets government over arrests and land acquisition

Further, he demanded the immediate release of detained leaders. He also called for stopping the proposed acquisition of nearly 1,200 acres of land.

He accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of failing to deliver on promises. At the same time, he alleged that the government is targeting farmers’ lands.

KTR said the government has not implemented key assurances such as Rythu Bharosa, loan waivers, and the Six Guarantees. Meanwhile, he claimed authorities continue to push land acquisition.

He questioned the urgency for acquiring land when the government has not set up major industries in the past two years. Therefore, he alleged that leaders aim to benefit select interests.

He said arrests and cases will not deter the BRS. He added that the party faced similar challenges during the Telangana movement.

KTR warned that intimidation tactics will fail and reiterated that the party will continue to support farmers.
