Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao alleged a conspiracy to weaken the Annaram barrage through illegal sand mining and demanded immediate criminal action against those responsible.
In a post on X, he questioned whether attempts were underway to damage the structure after targeting the Medigadda barrage. He accused unidentified elements of carrying out large-scale sand excavation directly beneath the Annaram barrage using heavy excavators, calling it a serious violation and a major crime.
Annaram barrage sand mining sparks political charge
KTR stated that rules prohibit sand mining near barrage structures and urged authorities to register criminal cases against those involved. He demanded a comprehensive probe into what he described as a plot to weaken the barrage and defame the BRS.
He further alleged that the Congress government was attempting to undermine the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. According to him, illegal sand extraction near the barrage pillars endangered the structure and amounted to a deliberate conspiracy.
KTR accused Congress leaders of shielding a sand mafia operating in broad daylight at the site. He claimed the episode reflected how the party was exploiting Telangana’s resources.
Warning of political consequences, he said the Congress would bear full responsibility if any damage occurred to the Kaleshwaram barrages. He also cautioned that people would hold the ruling party accountable.
