Konda Surekha accuses BJP of blocking 42% BC quota implementation

Hyderabad: Minister Konda Surekha blamed the BJP for blocking the 42 per cent BC quota in Telangana’s local body elections. She said the Congress government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, had worked sincerely to secure justice for Backward Classes.

Konda Surekha joins the BC protest in Hyderabad

Along with Cantonment MLA Sri Ganesh, Surekha joined the protest at the Rathifile bus stand in Hyderabad on Saturday. While addressing reporters, she said BJP leaders intentionally obstructed the implementation of BC reservations. Moreover, she noted that their actions had slowed down the entire process.

According to her, the government passed the BC Reservation Bill in both Houses and issued an ordinance to speed up implementation. However, the  BJP’s interference caused unnecessary delay and denied rightful benefits to BCs. Therefore, she demanded that the Centre stop politicising the issue and approve the quota immediately.

‘Governor and Centre acted to delay BC quota’

Surekha stated that a single signature from the Governor could have resolved the issue. Instead, the Bill was sent to the Centre, which, in her view, deliberately prolonged the matter. Furthermore, she called the move a “political conspiracy” aimed at denying justice to Backward Classes.

She also accused BJP leaders of going to court to block the state’s orders even after the government followed Supreme Court guidelines. In her words, it was ironic that the same party was now pretending to support the BC bandh after causing the problem.

Congress firm on 42% BC quota

The minister emphasised that the Congress government would continue its political and legal fight until BCs received their due share. In addition, she said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had shown full commitment to ensuring the 42 per cent BC quota became a reality. With determination and unity, she said, the government would achieve social justice for every Backward Class family.
