Hyderabad: Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) president M. Kodandaram on Tuesday said efforts would be made to ensure that promises made to Telangana movement activists are implemented by the state government.
Speaking at a tribute programme held at Gun Park to mark the anniversary of the historic Million March, Kodandaram said the government is expected to form a committee soon to examine the demands of activists who played a key role in the Telangana statehood movement.
He noted that the courage displayed by people during the Million March became a defining moment in the struggle for Telangana. According to him, the spirit shown during the movement continues to inspire future generations.
MLC Addanki Dayakar also attended the programme and assured activists that their concerns would be raised in the Legislative Council. He said the government should take appropriate steps to address long-pending issues related to Telangana movement activists.
Telangana movement activists remember the impact of the Million March
Leaders from the New Democracy organisation, including Venkateswara Rao, K. Govardhan and V. Sandhya, said their party played a significant role during the Million March. They recalled that their decision to advance towards Tank Bund during the protest became an inspiration for the wider movement.
Several leaders from Telangana activist organisations participated in the event and paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the statehood struggle.
Among those present were Cheema Srinivasa Rao, Sultan Yadagiri, Oruganti Anand, Ashwathama Reddy, Desai Karunakar, Kacham Satyanarayana, Pandu and Shyamsundar. Leaders from the Telangana Jana Samithi, including Bairi Ramesh, M. Narasayya, Palle Vinay, Lakshma Reddy, Shankar Rao, Ramesh Mudiraj and Ashappa, also attended the programme.
Hanumantha Reddy, Jaswanth, Pushpa Neela, Kotha Ravi and Prashanth were among other participants who joined the tribute gathering. Activists from several districts across Telangana assembled at Gun Park in large numbers to honour the Telangana martyrs.
