Hyderabad: Union Minister Kishan Reddy strongly condemned the 1975 Emergency on its 50th anniversary, accusing the Congress party of trampling the Constitution and silencing democracy for the sake of retaining power.
Posting on social media, Reddy described the Emergency as the darkest period in India’s democratic journey. He said the Constitution was disregarded, the media was muzzled, and lakhs of people were imprisoned all to secure the hold of one political family on power.
He urged citizens never to forget those who turned the country into a prison to save their position and warned against justifying such authoritarian acts as necessity. Reddy added that no one is above the Constitution and that such dictatorial tendencies must never be allowed to return.
