Kharge accuses Modi of damaging India US relations for personal gain

Hyderabad: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, accusing him of weakening India US relations for personal and political benefit. Speaking in Kalaburagi, Kharge said Modi’s overt friendship with former US President Donald Trump has harmed India’s international reputation.

Kharge alleged Modi prioritised personal ties over national interest, remarking, “Modi may be Trump’s friend, but he has become an enemy of the nation.”

India US relations at risk from Modi’s approach, says Kharge

He recalled Modi publicly endorsing Trump during a past US visit, calling him a friend and predicting his return to power. Kharge said such remarks embarrassed India globally and undermined decades of neutral foreign policy.

Turning to domestic issues, Kharge also criticised the government over GST reforms. He said Congress had raised concerns about multiple tax slabs eight years ago, insisting that two slabs would have benefited the poor.

He alleged the BJP misused GST to burden citizens and adjusted rates only ahead of elections in Bihar.
