Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president Kavitha urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to take firm action against Karnataka’s plan to raise the Almatti project height. She warned that the move could reduce Telangana’s share of Krishna river water and seriously affect farmers in the region.
Kavitha demands intervention during Mahabubnagar tour
During her Jagruthi Janam Baata tour in Mahabubnagar, Kavitha criticised the Karnataka government for pushing ahead with the project. She pointed out that both Telangana and Karnataka had Congress governments and said the Telangana Chief Minister must act quickly to stop the height increase.
“If Karnataka raises the dam height, Krishna canals in Telangana will dry up,” Kavitha said. “Farmers will not get a single drop of water.” Moreover, she explained that poor rainfall had already reduced inflows, and any further reduction would deepen the crisis.
Therefore, she urged Revanth Reddy to talk to Karnataka leaders and defend Telangana’s rights in the Krishna basin.
Jagruthi vows to continue fight for Telangana’s rights
Kavitha said Telangana Jagruthi would continue to stand with farmers and fight for the state’s water rights. She recalled the group’s strong role during the Telangana movement. “We built Jagruthi with the people’s trust,” she said. Furthermore, she promised that the organisation would keep working to protect Telangana’s interests.
In addition, she called upon all parties in Telangana to unite on the issue and defend the state’s rightful share of Krishna waters.
