Kavitha slams Revanth Reddy government after Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar link setback

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha said the Supreme Court’s rejection of the Telangana government’s petition on the Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar link once again exposed the failure of the Revanth Reddy government to protect the state’s water rights.

Reacting to the verdict of the Supreme Court of India, Kavitha stated that the Congress-led government failed to safeguard Telangana’s rightful share in Krishna and Godavari river waters. According to her, the judgment highlighted a weak legal strategy in a matter of long-term importance.

Earlier, she noted, the Chief Minister had said he did not want disputes with neighbouring states. This approach, she alleged, was clearly reflected in how the case was pursued before the apex court.

Petition flaws weakened the Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar link challenge

Moreover, Kavitha alleged that the government filed a petition lacking legal merit and failed to effectively challenge the Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar link project. She claimed that Andhra Pradesh, with the support of the Centre, was proceeding with the project in violation of established norms.

As a result, she accused the state government of weakening Telangana’s position by submitting what she described as an unfit petition. She argued that this allowed Andhra Pradesh to continue projects that threaten Telangana’s water security and future needs.

Additionally, Kavitha said the Chief Minister and senior leaders lacked adequate understanding of water resource issues. She warned that such gaps were causing serious and lasting damage to Telangana’s interests.

Finally, she asserted that Telangana Jagruthi would continue its legal battle against what she termed illegal projects. Protecting Telangana’s water rights, she said, would remain the organisation’s primary objective.
