Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha secured relief after the Delhi High Court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to decide on her new party application at the earliest.
The court heard the plea on Thursday regarding the proposed Telangana Praja Jagruthi Party. During the hearing, Kavitha’s counsel informed the bench that they corrected technical issues and resubmitted the application to the ECI.
In response, the ECI’s counsel told the court that it will take a decision soon.
Kavitha seeks faster decision on party registration
Kavitha filed her application for party registration on January 23 under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. However, the ECI flagged several technical issues in the proposal.
As a result, Kavitha approached the Delhi High Court and sought directions to speed up the process. Earlier, during the February 27 hearing, the ECI informed the court that it had already communicated the deficiencies to her.
Meanwhile, the court adjourned the earlier hearing as her counsel did not appear. It later took up the matter again on March 19.
Now, with the revised application in place, the court has asked the ECI to act quickly.
Kavitha aims to strengthen her political presence in Telangana ahead of upcoming elections. Therefore, she has begun taking strategic steps, including plans to launch a new party.
