Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president K. Kavitha wrote to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy seeking relief for employees affected by GO 317.
Kavitha urged the government to provide one-time relief by transferring affected employees and teachers to their native districts. She said GO 317, issued on December 6, 2021, caused hardship to thousands of employees.
Referring to past commitments, she recalled that Revanth Reddy, as PCC president, had written to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao seeking cancellation of the order. She added that the Congress had promised to review GO 317 and ensure justice to employees during the 2023 Assembly elections.
According to her, several leaders in the present Cabinet assured relief to affected employees on multiple occasions. However, she said the government has not acted on those assurances.
Kavitha seeks GO 317 relief for employees
Explaining the background, she said the government introduced GO 317 after district reorganisation in Telangana. Authorities allotted employees to new districts based on seniority. As a result, many employees with shorter service moved to districts away from their native places.
She said a sub-committee led by then Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari examined the issue. However, she pointed out that the government has not released the report so far. Therefore, she demanded that officials make the report public to clarify the number of affected employees.
She alleged that subsequent orders, including GO 243, 244, and 245, failed to resolve the issue. She added that the government later issued GO 190 to pacify protesting employees, yet the core problem remained.
Meanwhile, she said thousands of employees and teachers continue to seek transfers to their native districts based on local status. Despite repeated appeals, they have not received relief.
Kavitha demanded that the government immediately release the sub-committee report. She also asked authorities to provide postings in preferred districts without affecting job opportunities for unemployed youth.
She noted that over 20,000 employees and teachers retired after the Congress came to power. Therefore, she said the government could use these vacancies to accommodate affected employees.
She urged the Chief Minister to issue immediate directions and resolve the issue by granting relief to GO 317 affected employees.
