Kavitha alleges injustice to Telangana martyrs’ families

Hyderabad: Kalvakuntla Kavitha alleged that Telangana martyrs’ families injustice continued even after the formation of the state and demanded corrective measures in the upcoming State Budget.

Addressing a self-respect meeting of activists organised by Telangana Jagruti at Bagh Lingampalli on Thursday, she said families of Telangana movement activists and martyrs had faced “immense injustice” since statehood. She criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, stating that he had no connection with the separate Telangana movement.

Kavitha urged the Congress government to announce concrete steps in the State Budget to fulfil election promises made to Telangana activists. She warned that the ruling party would face sustained pressure if it failed to honour those commitments.

She also faulted leaders such as M. Kodandaram and former IAS officer Akunuri Murali for not speaking strongly in support of activists despite backing the Congress leadership.

Tracing the origins of the agitation, Kavitha said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao founded the TRS in 2001 to intensify the struggle for statehood. She noted that the second phase of the movement began with the Warangal Declaration in 1995. According to her, leaders such as Gaddar and Maroju Veeranna played key roles during that period.

At the same time, Kavitha admitted that many activists remained dissatisfied as justice had not been delivered even during the BRS’s decade-long rule. She indicated that a new political party might be launched soon. She said another movement would be required to secure justice for party activists.

In addition, she demanded 20 per cent reservation for Telangana people in private sector jobs.
