Hyderabad: In a corruption crackdown in Telangana’s Kamareddy district, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials caught a Tahsildar red-handed while he accepted a bribe of ₹50,000. The arrested official was Yarlagadda Srinivasa Rao, the Tahsildar of Nagireddipet mandal.
ACB officials said Srinivasa Rao demanded the bribe to forward a favourable report for the mutation of agricultural land from a father’s name to his son’s name. He allegedly instructed the complainant to hand over the money through a private individual, Chinoori Ajay.
ACB trap leads to arrests
After receiving the complaint, ACB officials planned and executed a trap on Tuesday. During the operation, Ajay delivered the bribe amount at the Tahsildar’s office. ACB teams immediately caught both the Tahsildar and the middleman.
Officials seized the chemically treated currency notes from the accused. They then conducted hand-wash tests, which returned positive results and confirmed the acceptance of the bribe.
Later, ACB officials produced both accused before the special ACB court at Nampally in Hyderabad. The agency registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and launched further investigation.
The ACB urged citizens to report any demand for bribes by public servants through its toll-free number, 1064, WhatsApp number, 9440446106, or on social media platforms. Officials assured complainants that they would keep their identities confidential.
