Hyderabad: Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Thursday directed officials to intensify action against the illegal transportation of liquor and narcotic substances across Telangana. The crackdown on illicit liquor aims to reduce illegal activities by targeting those involved in the illegal trade.

Speaking at the launch of the 2026 calendar of Telangana Prohibition and Excise Gazetted Officers at Ravindra Bharathi, the minister called for committed enforcement. There should be strict vigilance, especially concerning illicit liquor. He instructed officials to conduct regular field inspections. Firm action against any violations of excise laws is essential to prevent the distribution of illicit liquor. The minister emphasized that a successful crackdown on illicit liquor requires continued dedication and resources.

Krishna Rao said the department must implement the government’s liquor policies without compromise. They should focus also on eliminating the illicit liquor trade while increasing state revenue. Effective enforcement must go hand-in-hand with public education about the dangers of intoxicants.

He urged officials to raise awareness about the health risks associated with alcohol and narcotic consumption. Highlighting the broader social impact of illicit liquor, he said officers must actively participate in protecting public health through anti-drug campaigns.
