IPL betting scam crackdown intensifies in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: IPL betting scam crackdown intensified as Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar warned citizens against online frauds linked to match predictions during the ongoing Indian Premier League season.

The Commissioner said fraudsters were luring users through fake prediction platforms. These scams promised accurate match outcomes and toss results to attract unsuspecting victims.

Police said the IPL betting scam involved misleading advertisements and social media promotions. So far, authorities have blocked 494 advertisements and taken down 129 social media accounts linked to such activities.

Officials said scammers used digital platforms to spread false claims. They attempted to convince users to place bets based on fabricated predictions.

The Commissioner cautioned citizens against falling prey to such schemes. He advised them not to risk their money on unverified platforms.

“Don’t risk your hard-earned money,” Sajjanar said, urging people to remain vigilant during the IPL season.

Police said they were maintaining strict surveillance to curb the IPL betting scam. Enforcement agencies are monitoring online platforms to detect and block fraudulent activities.

Citizens were asked to report any suspicious activity immediately. They can contact the helpline number 1930 or use the cybercrime reporting portal for assistance.

Officials said prompt reporting would help authorities take swift action and prevent further financial losses.
