Hyderabad: Police rolled out security and traffic plans for IPL 2026 matches starting April 5 at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Uppal.
Officials said the matches will run till May 22 and include both day and night fixtures. The stadium has a capacity of about 39,000. Therefore, police deployed nearly 2,000 personnel to prevent any untoward incidents.
The deployment includes 750 Law and Order staff and 300 Traffic personnel. In addition, 10 platoons of TSSP/AR forces, mounted police, and Vajra vehicles have been positioned. Special teams from Special Branch, Bomb Disposal, Intelligence, SOT, and CI Cell also joined the operation. Meanwhile, fire services placed four fire tenders at the venue.
The police reserved Gate No. 1 for players. However, they allowed spectators through designated gates based on tickets. Teams also prepared an evacuation plan to handle emergencies.
Further, police installed about 430 CCTV cameras across the stadium and surrounding areas. These cover entry points, parking zones, and approach roads. A joint command control room monitors live footage for quick response.
At the same time, bomb disposal teams and sniffer dogs continue anti-sabotage checks during match days. Officers also use VHF sets to maintain communication across units.

Meanwhile, police deployed teams to track anti-social elements. They also placed mobile technicians at each gate to check phones. In addition, emergency response teams and mounted police were stationed at key gates.
The police banned several items inside the stadium. For instance, these include laptops, cameras, bags, bottles, sharp objects, and flammable materials. At the same time, SHE Teams will monitor and prevent harassment, while vendor teams will regulate pricing.
Further, officials verified the background of vendor and sponsor staff. They also issued photo passes for access control. In addition, authorities placed signage across major routes to guide visitors.
Meanwhile, officials increased ambulance services from three to five. They also stationed four fire engines for emergency response. However, no cloakroom facility will be available inside the stadium.
Traffic police restricted parking on main roads near the stadium. Therefore, vehicles must use designated parking areas only. Officials expect congestion on April 5 between 12:00 hrs and 23:50 hrs.
Congestion is likely on routes from Nagole to Habsiguda via Uppal Junction. Similarly, traffic may build up from Boduppal to Amberpet via Uppal and Ramanthapur. Hence, commuters should avoid these routes.
Police diverted heavy vehicles at key junctions like Nagole, Habsiguda, and Ghatkesar. The restriction applies to lorries, dumpers, tankers, buses, and similar vehicles.
Finally, police advised citizens to use public transport such as RTC buses and Metro Rail. Digital ticketing will begin from the April 13 match.
Officials said these measures aim to ensure safety and smooth movement during IPL 2026 matches in Hyderabad.
