Hyderabad: The Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA), under its flagship initiative Poultry India, celebrated World Protein Day 2026 in Secunderabad, stressing the importance of protein in daily nutrition and overall health. The event was held at SkyKings Football Academy in Bowenpally with support from the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC).
Speakers at the programme said World Protein Day 2026 served as a reminder of protein’s role in muscle development, immunity, child growth and general well-being. They noted that a large section of the Indian population consumes less than the recommended daily protein intake. As a result, hidden nutritional deficiencies continue to affect productivity and long-term health outcomes.
Industry representatives highlighted that India produces over 130 billion eggs and more than 5 million metric tonnes of broiler meat annually. They added that per capita egg availability exceeds 95 eggs per year. Poultry, they said, remains one of the most affordable and high-quality protein sources for households across the country.
Experts stress nutrition goals on World Protein Day 2026
Zakeer Hussain, U-17 National Team Coach and AFC Instructor, emphasised the need for balanced protein intake among youth. He said proper nutrition supports strength, fitness and immunity, especially for growing children and young athletes. Dr. Kiraannmayye Addu, Chief Clinical Nutritionist and Lifestyle Consultant, also underlined the importance of adequate protein consumption in daily diets.
Uday Singh Bayas, President of IPEMA–Poultry India, described protein as the “building block of life”. He reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to strengthening nutritional security in India. He also invited stakeholders to participate in the 18th edition of Poultry India Expo 2026, scheduled from November 25 to 27 at the Hyderabad International Trade Expositions Centre (HITEX) in Hyderabad.
Organisers said World Protein Day 2026 reinforced their commitment to promoting protein awareness and sustainable growth in the poultry sector. They added that the initiative aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry through research-driven practices and public outreach. The association stated that it would continue to position poultry as an affordable and high-quality protein source for the nation.
