Hyderabad: The Indian passport ranking improved to 75th position in the latest Henley Passport Index, marking a significant jump of 10 places from last year.
According to the new rankings, Indian passport holders can now travel to 56 countries without obtaining a prior visa. Consequently, the improved India passport ranking reflects enhanced global mobility for Indian citizens.
Last year, India stood at 85th position. Earlier in 2024, the country ranked 80th before slipping further. However, the latest India passport ranking shows a recovery. Despite the rise, this is not India’s best-ever performance. In 2006, the country achieved its highest position at 71st place.
India’s passport ranking rises as Singapore tops the global list
While India’s passport ranking improved, Singapore retained its position as the world’s most powerful passport. Singapore citizens can travel visa-free to 192 countries.
Japan and South Korea jointly secured the second position, offering access to 187 destinations. Meanwhile, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates shared the third spot with access to 186 countries.
France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland jointly occupied the fourth rank. In addition, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand featured among the top 10.
The latest India passport ranking highlights gradual progress in international travel access for Indian citizens.
