India records uptick in COVID cases; Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu see rise

Hyderabad: India is witnessing a slight resurgence in COVID cases, with 257 infections reported nationwide, according to central government data. Between May 12 and the following week, 164 new cases were recorded, though officials maintain that the overall situation remains under control.

The increase in cases in countries like Hong Kong and Singapore is said to be having a ripple effect on India, authorities noted.

Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu have reported the highest numbers this past week. Kerala registered 69 new infections, Maharashtra 44, and Tamil Nadu 34.

Two COVID-positive deaths were reported in Maharashtra, but doctors clarified that the fatalities were due to other health issues and not directly caused by the virus. The state currently has 56 active cases.

Officials continue to monitor the situation but have ruled out any immediate cause for alarm.
