Hyderabad: An illegal IVF racket has been uncovered at a Hyderabad-based test tube baby centre, Indian Sperm Tech, which was found collecting sperm and egg cells without authorisation and using them for surrogacy arrangements.
Police raided the centre in Regimental Bazaar, Secunderabad, and arrested seven individuals. Pankaj Soni, the clinic’s manager, has been named the prime accused.
Investigators said Indian Sperm Tech had direct links with another facility, Srushti Test Tube Centre, and had been operating without the required medical clearances.
Gametes illegally sourced, sent to other states
According to the police, gametes collected in Hyderabad were being shipped to IVF centres in Gujarat, Ahmedabad, and Madhya Pradesh.
The racket came to light during raids at the Indian Sperm Tech clinic.
Police discovered the clinic was sourcing sperm in Hyderabad for a fertility centre in Ahmedabad. Donors were paid up to ₹4,000 per sample.
Those arrested include Pankaj, Sampath, Srinu, Jitender, Shiva, Manikanth, and Borol.
Gopalapuram police are continuing their investigation into the broader illegal IVF Hyderabad network.
