IIIT Hyderabad R&D showcase begins

Hyderabad: The IIIT Hyderabad R&D showcase began on Saturday at the institute’s Gachibowli campus, bringing together researchers, industry leaders, policymakers and students to explore emerging technologies.

The two-day IIIT Hyderabad R&D showcase marks the institute’s 25th annual research and development exhibition. The event focuses on advances in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics and digital public infrastructure.

This year’s theme is “Trust in Technology – Security, Privacy and Transparency.”

The exhibition features more than 400 research posters, demonstrations and prototypes developed by 29 research centres.

Organisers said over 300 representatives from industry and students from several colleges are expected to visit the IIIT Hyderabad R&D showcase during the two-day event.

Delivering the keynote address, Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, Chief Executive Officer of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, spoke about the role of research funding in India.

He said the foundation serves as the country’s primary body for supporting and funding scientific research.

Kalyanaraman explained that the foundation replaced the Science and Engineering Research Board under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Act, 2023.

Director of IIIT Hyderabad Sandeep K. Shukla said the IIIT Hyderabad R&D showcase reflected the institute’s commitment to innovation.

He said the exhibition highlighted efforts to translate academic research into solutions that deliver real societal impact.

Technology projects featured at IIIT Hyderabad R&D showcase

A panel discussion during the IIIT Hyderabad R&D focused on cybersecurity challenges.

Participants discussed the increasing threat of cybercrime and the shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals.

They also stressed the need to strengthen national frameworks for cybersecurity protection.

Among the major attractions at the IIIT Hyderabad R&D is an autonomous self-driving wheelchair designed to assist persons with disabilities.

The exhibition also features robotics projects and models of traditional earthquake-resilient houses from Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam.

Organisers said the event would conclude on Sunday with research outreach sessions for students.

The closing programme will also include a patent felicitation ceremony honouring IIIT Hyderabad researchers for their contributions to innovation and technology development.
