ICCBP Hyderabad conference spotlights sustainable pavements innovation

Hyderabad: The ICCBP Hyderabad conference opened at the Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre, marking its first edition in India.

The 13th International Conference on Concrete Block Pavement brought together experts from several countries to discuss advances in paving technologies. The Pavers and Blocks Manufacturers Association is hosting the two-day event.

K. Sreedhar Reddy, President of NAREDCO Telangana, inaugurated the conference. He emphasised the role of modern paving solutions in building sustainable infrastructure.

The ICCBP Hyderabad conference builds on a legacy that began in 1980 as a global platform for pavement innovation. This year, experts from Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, South Africa and Uruguay are participating.

Discussions focused on long-term pavement performance, sustainability and emerging engineering applications. For instance, sessions examined heavy-duty pavements, permeable systems for urban drainage and railway infrastructure advancements.

Experts highlighted the increasing use of eco-friendly materials such as Recycled Concrete Aggregates. These materials reduce carbon emissions while maintaining structural strength. Moreover, innovations like high Solar Reflectance Index tiles and permeable interlocking systems are gaining wider acceptance.

The ICCBP Hyderabad conference also examined solutions for high-traffic environments. In particular, specialists noted that railway platforms require materials that ensure durability, slip resistance and strength. Precast flagstones produced through vacuum wet press technology deliver strong performance under such conditions.

Field studies at busy railway stations in India support their long-term reliability. As a result, experts presented these findings during technical sessions.

Organisers said the event aims to bridge research with real-world applications. They stressed that collaboration among researchers, manufacturers and policymakers remains essential for resilient urban infrastructure.

Meanwhile, a trade exhibition is running alongside the conference. It showcases machinery, materials and technologies from global and domestic suppliers for modern paver production.
