Hyderabad: HYDRAA officials secured 38 acres of government land meant for journalists in Petbasheerabad, Qutbullapur Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, by fencing the site on Wednesday. The land, located in Survey No. 25/2, had faced repeated encroachment attempts over the years.
HYDRAA secures land allotted to journalists
The state government allotted the land in 2008 to the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalists Mutually Aided Cooperative Housing Society (JNJMACHS). The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) kept the land under its custody, but legal disputes in court delayed plot distribution.
Encroachments began appearing on parts of the site. JNJMACHS members complained to HYDRAA, while officials from the Revenue and HMDA departments sought support to protect the land.
Inspections confirm encroachments
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath directed field inspections with officers from the Revenue, HMDA, and Municipal departments. The teams confirmed illegal occupation on parts of the site and noticed that some houses had already come up. Officials fenced the remaining open area to block further intrusions.
When locals objected, HYDRAA explained that plot allocations would follow court orders. Until then, the agency would safeguard the land as state property.
HYDRAA to hold meeting with residents
Commissioner Ranganath said HYDRAA would soon hold a meeting with residents who built houses on the land. Officials from all departments — HYDRAA, Revenue, HMDA, and Municipal — will review records and resolve the issue through lawful means.
