HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner Ranganath has assured that the issue surrounding the Hindu crematorium in Macha Bollaram will be resolved promptly. On Tuesday, he inspected the dump yard located near the cremation ground and interacted with local residents to understand their grievances.
Ranganath stated that complaints had been received about the dump yard being operated by the private waste management firm Ramky in the vicinity of the Hindu crematorium. Residents alleged that the crematorium was gradually being turned into a dumping site, with construction activities taking place illegally on the allocated land.
He noted that the site had already been inspected by local MLA Marri Rajashekar Reddy, MP Etela Rajender, and former MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao. Minister Sridhar Babu, upon being apprised of the situation, had instructed officials to resolve the issue without delay.
Ranganath emphasised that any attempt to encroach upon land designated for the Hindu crematorium and convert it into a dump yard was unacceptable. He directed Alwal Municipal Deputy Commissioner Srinivas Reddy to halt all dumping and construction activities within the crematorium premises.
He clarified that only two acres had been officially allotted for dumping purposes, whereas nearly five acres were being used—an expansion he termed inappropriate. Ranganath also acknowledged that local residents had been protesting for the past 24 days to protect the cremation site, bringing the matter to the attention of public representatives.
The commissioner said health concerns had been reported among residents due to the unauthorised dumping activity and assured that corrective action would be taken to safeguard both the land and public well-being.
