Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected lakes in Madhapur on Saturday and directed officials to complete development works within two months. The HYDRAA Commissioner inspection focused on restoration, land protection and tourism development.
He visited Thammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu to review ongoing restoration works. During the visit, he assessed progress on the ground and held discussions with officials. The inspection followed a recent visit by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to Thammidikunta.
The Commissioner said the government aimed to develop Thammidikunta into a major tourist destination due to its proximity to the IT hub. He added that the lake should offer a stress-free environment for visitors. Moreover, he instructed officials to ensure greenery around the lake.
He directed them to increase green cover so that temperatures near the lake remain three to four degrees lower than surrounding areas. In addition, he asked officials to create walking paths, seating facilities, parks and landscaped green spaces.
HYDRAA Commissioner inspection directs lake development works
The HYDRAA Commissioner inspection emphasised completing lake development works within two months. He reviewed restoration activities and urged officials to maintain quality and speed.
He also instructed officials to examine government lands around the lakes. Furthermore, he asked them to take possession of such lands and include them in development plans.
He directed authorities to verify documents held by encroachers and take action where required. At Sunnam Cheruvu, he sought complete details of survey numbers 30 and 31. He stressed that government land must be secured without any loss.
The Commissioner also reviewed land between these survey numbers and conducted a field inspection. At Thammidikunta, he asked officials to examine claims over nearby government land.
He warned that dumping waste near the lake could lead to water pollution. Therefore, he instructed authorities to prevent dumping and maintain cleanliness.
HYDRAA Commissioner inspection reviews drainage and safety issues
The HYDRAA Commissioner inspection also covered floodwater inflows near Sunnam Cheruvu. He examined inlets that bring floodwater from Borabanda Basti and NRR Puram into the lake.
Officials informed him that a diversion canal had been completed to separate floodwater and sewage. However, they said the final connection was pending.
Local residents raised concerns about unsafe access roads due to the delay. In response, the Commissioner said he would visit again with municipal officials within two days to resolve the issue.
He also directed officials to lay pipelines to ensure smooth drainage flow. In addition, he ordered removal of encroachments under high-tension power lines near the lake.
He asked authorities to take steps for road widening along the lake stretch. These measures, he said, would improve safety and infrastructure around the lakes.
