Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police will launch a continuous licence check drive from March 1, 2026, targeting motorists driving without a valid Driving Licence.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D Joel Davis said the department would intensify enforcement to curb violations and enhance road safety across the city.
Traffic police advised all commuters to carry a valid Driving Licence while driving. They urged those without a valid licence to obtain one from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) immediately.
Officials said a majority of road accidents involved drivers who did not possess a valid Driving Licence. Therefore, the licence check drive aims to ensure stricter compliance with licensing norms.
Licence check drive to focus on unlicensed driving
The Hyderabad Traffic Police warned vehicle owners not to permit unlicensed persons to drive their vehicles. Allowing such driving also constitutes an offence under the law.
Officials further clarified that insurance claims would not be honoured if an accident occurred while an unlicensed person drove the vehicle. In such cases, owners and drivers could face serious financial and legal consequences.
The department requested the public to cooperate during the licence check drive and strictly adhere to traffic rules. Officials said consistent enforcement would help reduce accidents and strengthen overall road safety in Hyderabad.
