Hyderabad Police secure life sentences in five POCSO cases

Hyderabad: In a decisive move against child sexual abuse, Hyderabad City Police secured life sentences in POCSO cases across five recent convictions. Sessions and Fast Track Special Courts delivered the judgments under IPC, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and POCSO Act provisions.

The cases were reported at Begumpet, Banjara Hills, Bhavani Nagar, and SR Nagar police stations. The courts handed the following punishments:

  • Life imprisonment till death for a man convicted of assaulting his 12-year-old daughter
  • 25 years’ rigorous imprisonment for assaulting a 9-year-old girl
  • 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for luring and assaulting an 8-year-old
  • Five years’ rigorous imprisonment in two separate cases involving girls aged 4 and 8

Victim compensation, family support and committed legal follow-through

The courts also awarded compensation between ₹2 lakh and ₹5 lakh to support the survivors. Notably, all five victims are continuing their education.

Each case received critical backing from the Bharosa Centre, which provided legal assistance, counselling, and medical aid. The centre ensured child-friendly procedures were followed at all stages. Despite social pressure, the families stood firm and refused to compromise.

Dr. Lavanya NJP, DCP of the Women Safety Wing, closely monitored the cases. The successful convictions resulted from coordinated efforts by police investigators, public prosecutors, and Bharosa staff.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner lauded the outcome and reaffirmed the force’s zero-tolerance stance on crimes against children.
