Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner CV Anand on Friday said comprehensive security arrangements are being made to ensure peaceful Bonalu celebrations across Hyderabad.
Speaking after participating in the traditional Shikhara Puja and flag-hoisting ceremony at the historic Simhavahini Mahankali temple in Lal Darwaza alongside GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan, CV Anand said the police are coordinating with multiple departments to maintain order during the festival.
He noted that inviting the city’s Kotwal (police chief) to this ritual has been a long-standing tradition. The Commissioner said the 120-year-old tradition continues with Bonalu observed annually in Ashada masam. This year, the police are deploying additional forces, including reinforcements from outside the city, especially across South Zone.
Preventive measures include enhanced patrolling, crowd control, surveillance by crime teams, and deployment of SHE Teams to monitor and curb crimes like pickpocketing, chain snatching, and eve-teasing.
The GHMC is also working in coordination with the temple committee to ensure smooth conduct of the festivities. CP Anand urged devotees and temple authorities to cooperate with the police and assured that all arrangements would aim to minimise inconvenience to the public.
Senior officers including GHMC Commissioner Karnan, DCP Sneha Mehra, Traffic DCP R. Venkateshwarlu, and temple committee chairman B. Maruthi Yadav were present during the visit.
