Hyderabad police arrest man for assaulting constable during GHMC drive

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police arrested a key accused for assaulting a constable and obstructing officials during a GHMC encroachment removal drive at Murgi Chowk.

Hussainialam Police identified the accused as Sahil Akber. The incident occurred on April 4 during an anti-encroachment operation from Lad Bazar to Puranapool.

According to police, GHMC officials conducted the drive with support from Charminar Division personnel. However, at Murgi Chowk, the accused and his associates formed an unlawful assembly and obstructed the operation.

During the altercation, Sahil Akber attacked Police Constable Dheeraj Tiwari and pushed him forcefully. He also used abusive language against officials on duty.

Hyderabad police act against assault during encroachment drive

Further, police registered a case under Crime No. 102/2026 at Hussainialam Police Station. They invoked relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for obstructing public servants and causing hurt.

Meanwhile, police arrested the accused on April 5 near Murgi Chowk based on credible information. During questioning, he admitted his role in the incident.

Authorities produced him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at Nampally and sent him for judicial remand. At the same time, police continued efforts to trace the other accused.

Officials said two others, including a former corporator and an MLC, were also involved in the incident. Police are examining their role in the case.

Hyderabad police warned that strict action would follow against anyone attacking public servants. They urged citizens to cooperate with officials during enforcement drives.
