Hyderabad: The Telangana government has intensified its push for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro, aiming to complete at least half the proposed work before the next state elections.
The state has earmarked ₹43,848 crore for the project, which is split into Part-A and Part-B, comprising a total of eight corridors. Of this, the government plans to raise nearly half—₹21,047.04 crore through loans from international financial institutions.
Senior state officials who visited Japan two months ago held meetings with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss funding options. They requested financial support contingent on the central government’s approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Efforts are also underway to secure clearance from the Centre for the five corridors proposed under Part-A.
The project’s funding plan includes a small portion—about 4%, or ₹1,753 crore—through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements. After accounting for the contributions from both the Centre and the state, around ₹22,800 crore is expected to be sourced via international loans and PPP.
