Hyderabad: Telangana will host the Women’s Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 from March 8 to 14 at the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium, bringing a major international tournament to the city.
The Department of Sports is organising the event in collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de Hockey and Hockey India under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Officials upgraded the venue to meet global standards ahead of the competition.
Eight teams will compete in the tournament, including India, Austria, England, Italy, Korea, Scotland, Uruguay and Wales. Meanwhile, squads from India, Scotland and Uruguay have already reached Hyderabad.
World cup qualifiers to boost Telangana’s sporting profile
Players will compete on newly laid astro turfs at Gachibowli. The tournament will determine qualification for the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026.
The Sports Authority of Telangana is coordinating arrangements with multiple departments to ensure smooth conduct. In addition, authorities arranged international-standard accommodation and training facilities for all teams.
Organisers have planned heritage tours and cultural programmes for visiting players and delegates. Consequently, the event will highlight Hyderabad’s sports infrastructure and global credentials.
Officials said sustained government support has enabled Telangana to attract major national and international events. Therefore, hosting the qualifiers is expected to strengthen the State’s standing in international sport.
