HYDERABAD: A trip to Hampi turned tragic for Dr. Ananya Rao, a 27-year-old doctor from Hyderabad, who drowned in the Tungabhadra River near Koppal district, Karnataka. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon while she was on an excursion with friends.
Dr. Ananya had traveled to Hampi along with her friends Satwin and Hashita for sightseeing. After visiting several tourist spots, the group stayed overnight at a guest house in Nanapur village on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Dr. Rao attempted to swim in the Tungabhadra River by jumping from a 25-foot-high hill. However, the strong current swept her away.
Local authorities and rescue teams were immediately alerted, and search operations were launched. Despite their efforts, her body was recovered on Thursday morning.
Dr. Rao was the daughter of Dr. Mehan Rao and was associated with VKC Hospital. The news of her untimely demise has left her family, friends, and colleagues in deep sorrow.
