Hyderabad: The cybercrime crackdown by Hyderabad Police led to the removal of over 200 fraudulent social media profiles involved in online betting and fake investment scams during March.

Officials from the cybercrime unit said they identified 129 social media accounts on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram that were running 494 paid advertisements targeting Indian users. Police issued a public advisory warning that online betting is illegal in Telangana and can result in financial losses and misuse of personal data. They urged citizens not to download or promote such applications or share referral links.

Additionally, authorities cautioned the public against fake high-return investment schemes and advised vigilance against deepfake endorsements circulating online. Citizens were asked to report suspicious activity through the cybercrime helpline 1930 or the official reporting portal.
