Hyderabad CP issues safety advisory for Sankranthi, warns against Chinese manjha

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Saturday issued a public advisory for residents of Hyderabad ahead of Sankranthi, urging citizens to prioritise home safety and avoid using or selling banned Chinese manjha during the festival. Make sure to follow the Sankranthi advisory issued by authorities for a safe celebration.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the CP cautioned that locked homes during the festive season are prime targets for burglars. He advised those leaving for their hometowns to ensure that cash and valuables are secured in bank lockers. “Don’t post travel updates on social media. It signals that your house is vacant,” he warned, which is also included in the Sankranthi advisory to protect homes.

Inform police before travel; report any suspicious activity

Sajjanar requested residents to inform their local police station before heading out of town and immediately dial 100 if they notice any suspicious activity. “Your safety is our responsibility,” he stated, extending Sankranthi greetings to all citizens as part of the advisory.

Strict warning issued against banned Chinese manjha

In a separate tweet, the CP issued a stern warning against the use and sale of Chinese manjha. “If you see it being sold, report it immediately. Don’t buy it, and don’t let others buy it,” he wrote. He described Chinese manjha not just as string, but as a deadly trap that has injured both people and birds. Adhering to the Sankranthi advisory will help prevent such dangers.

He reminded the public that Chinese manjha remains officially banned and violators will face strict action under law, as outlined in the Sankranthi advisory.
