HYDERABAD: Two independent candidates were disqualified during the scrutiny of nominations for the upcoming Telangana Legislative Council election from the Hyderabad Local Authorities’ constituency. This narrowed the Hyderabad Council election to a direct face-off between the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Independent candidates Chandra Shekhar and K. Saina were found to have submitted invalid nominations, leading to their disqualification. Following the scrutiny, only two valid candidates remain: AIMIM’s Mirza Riyaz ul Hassan Effendi and BJP’s Dr N. Goutham Rao.
The development was officially confirmed by Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy through a press note issued on Monday. The election is expected to draw significant attention, with both remaining candidates representing prominent political parties.
