Huzurnagar housing project inauguration set for March 14

Hyderabad: The Huzurnagar housing project aimed at providing homes for poor families will be inaugurated on March 14, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced on Wednesday.

The minister inspected the project site at Ramaswamy Gutta near Huzurnagar and reviewed the progress of construction works. During the visit, he said an invitation had been sent to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to inaugurate the housing colony.

Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to complete the remaining works within one week. He asked the departments concerned to work overtime if necessary to meet the deadline.

The Huzurnagar housing project has been built across 110 acres and will provide single-room houses to 2,160 families.

The minister recalled that he originally launched the project when he served as Housing Minister in the undivided Andhra Pradesh government. However, he alleged that the initiative was neglected after the BRS government came to power in 2014.

According to Uttam Kumar Reddy, the project was already in an advanced stage when the government changed. Yet the development stalled for several years.

“This would mark the culmination of a project initiated and launched when I served as Housing Minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

He further alleged that the project site had been neglected and turned into a dumping ground during the previous government.

However, the minister said the Huzurnagar housing project was revived after the Congress government returned to power in 2023.

Huzurnagar housing project planned for disadvantaged families

Spread across 110 acres, the Huzurnagar housing project is being developed at a cost of ₹125 crore, excluding land acquisition expenses.

Officials said the land was purchased from the Endowments Department at full market value. The acquisition followed all statutory and legal procedures.

The colony will include 2,160 modern, self-contained single-room flats designed for economically weaker families.

The project is intended to benefit the poorest sections of society. These include rural workers, rice mill workers, and families living in Huzurnagar municipality and nearby villages.

Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasised the need for transparency in the beneficiary selection process. He assigned the responsibility to a team of officials led by the local Revenue Divisional Officer.

“The selection process should be the most transparent affair. Not even a single family that does not deserve the housing benefit should be part of the list,” the minister said.

He added that the government planned to finalise 1,000 beneficiaries in the first phase.

According to the minister, this phased approach would ensure that the most deserving families receive housing support first while maintaining strict verification procedures.
