Hyderabad: Managing Director of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) Ashok Reddy inspected the ongoing pipeline repair works at Bulkapur on Monday after a major water pipeline burst.
Officials launched emergency repairs after a 1200 mm diameter PSC gravity main pipeline developed a breach early in the morning.
Ashok Reddy visited the site and reviewed the progress of repairs with engineering officials.
He asked operations, maintenance and transmission teams to coordinate closely. Meanwhile, he instructed them to complete the work quickly.
Authorities detected the burst around 5 a.m. near Bulkapur village. Therefore, officials immediately stopped water supply from Singapur and Khanapur to prevent further water loss.
Pipeline repair works taken up on war footing
Repair works began around 7 a.m. Meanwhile, teams continued the pipeline repair at the site.
The Managing Director also directed officials to supply water through tankers in affected areas. Accordingly, residents will receive temporary water supply during the repairs.
The damaged pipeline carries water from Singapur to Khanapur and supplies several parts of the city.
Officials expect the repairs to finish by around 10 p.m. After that, authorities will restore water supply in phases.
The disruption affected areas including Gandipet, Kokapet, Narsingi, Manchirevula, Puppalaguda, Khanapur, Manikonda and areas under Sheikhpet Reservoir and Bojagutta Reservoir command limits.
