HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has recently conducted a hearing on a petition filed by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) seeking the dismissal of a Rail Roko case registered during the Telangana statehood movement.
Background of the Case
The case dates back to October 15, 2011, when a Rail Roko protest was organized in Secunderabad as part of the agitation for a separate Telangana state. During this event, law enforcement authorities registered cases and arrested several individuals involved in the protest.
Legal Proceedings
In June 2024, the People’s Representatives Court had issued a stay on the proceedings related to this case. The matter remained pending in the High Court and recently came up for hearing.
Arguments Presented
During the hearing, KCR’s legal counsel argued that the former Chief Minister was not present at the location of the Rail Roko protest on the specified date. Conversely, the Public Prosecutor contended that the protest was initiated following a call from KCR, implying his involvement in the incident.
Court’s directive
After considering the arguments from both sides, the High Court directed that notices be issued to the individual who had filed the complaint with the police regarding the Rail Roko incident. The court has postponed further hearings until these notices are duly served and responses are received.
This report is based on information available as of April 1, 2025, and further developments may occur as the case proceeds.
