High Court reserves verdict on petitions over Group 1 recruitments

Group 1 Recruitment

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions challenging various aspects of the Group 1 recruitment process, after concluding five days of hearings.

A bench led by Justice Namavarapu Rajeswara Rao heard arguments from candidates who objected to the valuation of Group 1 main answer sheets. The petitioners contended that the evaluation was flawed and demanded that the examination be scrapped.

Earlier, the High Court had issued interim orders in April, halting the recruitment process but allowing certificate verification to proceed. Some candidates who qualified for the mains also petitioned for final appointments to be allowed.

Representing TSPSC, counsel argued on Friday that scrapping the entire examination was unjustified and described the petitions as “worthless.” They said several candidates had resigned from existing jobs, including the CRPF, to appear for Group 1, and many had qualified for mains fairly.

TSPSC’s counsel further told the court that objections raised over higher marks to women, or exam centre changes for physically handicapped candidates, were unfounded. They insisted the exam was conducted transparently, citing that even in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, English-medium candidates cleared similar tests without controversy.

After hearing both sides, the High Court reserved its judgment, which is expected in due course.
