Heavy rains, gusty winds to lash parts of Telangana this week

Hyderabad: A spell of intense weather is on the horizon for Telangana, with the meteorological department warning of heavy rains and thunderclaps sweeping through several districts starting today and continuing till Sunday. Wind speeds are expected to touch 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, bringing in strong gusts that could disrupt daily life across the state.

The department has attributed the disturbance to a cyclonic circulation hovering over the west-central Bay of Bengal, close to north coastal Andhra Pradesh. This system is likely to trigger widespread rainfall, particularly across central and northern Telangana.

Thursday’s forecast includes a yellow alert for Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Jagtial, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal. Showers in these areas are expected to be accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

On Friday, the rain belt will extend to Nirmal, Nizamabad, and repeat over Mahabubabad, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal, keeping emergency services on alert in these districts.

The intensity is likely to peak on Saturday, with a broader swathe of Telangana set to receive heavy rains. Forecasted districts include Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Medak, and Kamareddy.

On Sunday, showers are likely to continue in Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mahabubabad.

Authorities have urged the residents in the affected regions to stay cautious, particularly in low-lying areas and those prone to flooding or wind damage.
