Health profiling for SHG women to begin on March 8

Hyderabad: The Telangana government decided to launch health profiling of self-help group (SHG) women across the state beginning March 8 on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha reviewed preparations with senior officials at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The initiative forms part of the Praja Palana–Pragati Pranalika programme.

Principal Secretary of Health Christina Z Chongthu, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Sangeeta Satyanarayana, Aarogyasri CEO Uday Kumar, Drug Control Authority Director General Shanawaz Qasim, DME Narendra Kumar, TVVP Commissioner Ajay Kumar and Director of Health Ravinder Naik attended the meeting.

Officials said the department will implement a 99-day action plan from March 6 to June 12. The minister approved the programme with minor modifications.

During the first phase from March 6 to March 31, authorities will focus on maternal and child health, adolescent girls and women healthcare. Officials will also improve hospital sanitation, clear pending files and verify departmental assets.

Field teams will conduct anaemia prevention activities and organise health check-ups for children in schools and anganwadi centres.

Health profiling drive to cover 46 lakh SHG women

The government will begin health profiling of SHG women on March 8. With support from Telangana Diagnostics, doctors will conduct about 30 medical tests for each beneficiary.

Authorities plan to screen nearly 46 lakh women in three phases. Initially, officials will start the programme in five mandals of each district.

Later, they will extend the programme to another 10 mandals. Finally, authorities will cover the remaining mandals across the state.

The minister instructed officials to complete the entire screening process within six months.

In the second phase from April 1 to April 15, health teams will organise screening camps for non-communicable diseases such as BP, diabetes and cancer at sub-centres.

Officials will also map chemotherapy services at district day-care cancer centres. They will ensure viral infection tests for dialysis patients.

During the third phase from April 16 to May 15, authorities will focus on communicable disease control and public health preparedness.

Health teams will intensify TB detection under the TB Mukt Bharat mission. They will also spread awareness about heatstroke, dengue and malaria as summer temperatures rise.

In the fourth phase from May 16 to June 12, the department will expand healthcare services in urban areas. Authorities will upgrade 145 Urban Primary Health Centres in GHMC, Cyberabad and Medchal into polyclinics offering specialist services.

Health teams will organise mobile medical camps in urban slums to provide treatment for poor residents. Officials will also conduct food safety fairs to create awareness about adulterated food.
