Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Jagan Mohan Rao was arrested on Wednesday by CID officials following a vigilance report linked to a recent IPL ticketing controversy.
According to sources, Rao allegedly threatened the management of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), demanding 20 percent of match tickets be handed over free of cost. When SRH refused the demand, Rao reportedly responded by locking the VIP gallery during one of the IPL matches at the Hyderabad venue.
The incident drew government attention, prompting a formal vigilance inquiry into Rao’s conduct as HCA president. The preliminary findings of that investigation confirmed the allegations, leading to a CID case and his subsequent detention on Wednesday afternoon.
Officials stated that Rao’s actions were deemed a misuse of his position, with the CID moving swiftly based on corroborated evidence presented in the vigilance report.
