Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader T. Harish Rao said the historic Million March remains a defining chapter in the history of the Telangana movement.
Marking 15 years of the protest, he said the demonstration at Tank Bund symbolised the spirit and self-respect of the people of Telangana.
According to him, the protest shook the then rulers of the united state despite heavy restrictions imposed to stop the march.
Harish Rao recalls spirit of Million March
Harish Rao said authorities attempted to block the protest with barricades, police action and tear gas.
However, he said people of Telangana moved forward with determination and courage without stepping back.
Large crowds from villages and towns reached Tank Bund, turning the area into what he described as a “movement sea”.
He said the spirit shown during the agitation continues to inspire people across Telangana.
Harish Rao added that people fought unitedly for their rights and identity during the united state period.
He urged citizens to protect the state and its resources with the same determination shown during the Million March.
“Let us move forward with the spirit of the Million March to safeguard Telangana,” he said.
He concluded his message with slogans supporting Telangana and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
