Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS Deputy Floor Leader Harish Rao strongly criticised Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy for his remarks in the Rajya Sabha.
He accused Kishan Reddy of spreading falsehoods and distorting facts. According to him, the comments also insulted Telangana’s self-respect in Parliament.
In a statement, the BRS leader said Kishan Reddy failed to support the Telangana movement earlier. Now, he alleged, the Union Minister has once again misled Parliament.
He objected to Kishan Reddy’s claim on the transfer of seven mandals to Andhra Pradesh. Calling it a historical falsehood, he termed it a grave injustice to Telangana.
Blaming the Centre, he said the BJP-led Union government brought an amendment and issued an ordinance to transfer the mandals. Therefore, he asserted that Kishan Reddy cannot escape responsibility.
Harish Rao targets remarks on the Kaleshwaram project
Recalling past events, the BRS leader said K. Chandrasekhar Rao had strongly opposed the move. He added that KCR even called for a Telangana bandh at the time.
However, Kishan Reddy is now attempting to rewrite history and mislead Parliament, he said.
He further stated that the remarks have hurt Telangana’s dignity. Moreover, they point to a larger political conspiracy, he added.
Turning to the Kaleshwaram project, the former minister said the Union Minister merely repeated “false propaganda.” According to him, this reflects an understanding between Congress and the BJP.
Questioning the claims, he asked whether it is false that Kaleshwaram is one of the largest lift irrigation projects. He also raised doubts about denying water supply to farmers during the summer.
Challenging the Union Minister, he urged him to visit Telangana and witness the situation firsthand.
Criticising the remarks on public spending, the BRS leader described them as immature. He also questioned whether governments use personal funds for major projects.
Finally, he said it is unfortunate that MPs from the BJP and Congress are not raising Telangana’s voice in Parliament. Instead, he alleged, they are weakening it.
