Habitual Offender Sentenced to Life for 2019 Shamirpet Murder

Hyderabad: In a significant verdict regarding the Shamirpet murder, a Sessions Court in Medchal–Malkajgiri has sentenced Magani Ramulu (40) to life imprisonment for murdering a woman in Upparpally near the Outer Ring Road in 2019.

Ramulu killed Pallapu Lavanya alias Manjula (35) by smashing her head with a boulder after she resisted a sexual assault. He also stole her mobile phone, police said.

Repeat offender with violent history

Shamirpet Police initially treated the case as an unnatural death. Further investigation revealed it was murder. Ramulu had earlier served a sentence for a 2009 Shamirpet murder and was released from jail in November 2018. Police arrested him again in February 2021 for Lavanya’s murder.

Convicted under IPC Sections 302 and 379

Judge G. Bhanumathi of the II Additional District and Sessions Court found Ramulu guilty under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and 379 (theft).

Police officials praised the verdict as a warning to repeat offenders and a firm stance against crimes targeting women.
