Hyderabad: The GSTAT appeals deadline of June 30, 2026 is likely to witness multiple lakh filings, Dr Justice (Retd.) Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, President of the GST Appellate Tribunal, said on Saturday.
He urged taxpayers and professionals not to wait until the last moment to approach the newly operational tribunal. Instead, he advised them to file appeals early to ensure smooth processing and avoid hardship.
Justice Mishra spoke after inaugurating a half-day summit titled “GSTAT: Navigating the New Era of GST Litigation”, organised by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry at Hyatt Place, Banjara Hills.
He described GSTAT as a specialised and fully digital appellate body. It functions as the second appellate authority under the GST framework. Therefore, it reduces the burden on High Courts and accelerates dispute resolution.
GSTAT appeals deadline set for June 30, 2026
The tribunal will hear disputes related to tax demands, Input Tax Credit, refunds, penalties and classification issues. Appeals will be filed electronically through the GST portal.
Justice Mishra said the notified GSTAT appeals deadline of June 30, 2026 provides adequate time. However, he cautioned that delaying filings could create avoidable pressure on both taxpayers and the system.
More than 250 professionals attended the summit. Participants included Chartered Accountants, advocates, tax practitioners, business executives handling GST matters and finance professionals. The event featured technical sessions and a live demonstration of the GSTAT e-filing system.
